Former presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has left the NPP, which is currently in power.
In an address to the nation on his political future at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra, he said: "Under the circumstances and given the context presented, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honorably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
His choice comes after he withdrew from the NPP presidential contest, citing anomalies in the election, unjust treatment, and bias at the meeting of super delegates.
He claimed that if he remained in the campaign, he felt that the problems he listed would recur in the final November 4 primary.
Many were surprised by Mr. Kyeremanten's success in the first exercise, which narrowed the field of candidates for the general election in November to only five. At the time, he was seen as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's main rival for the vice presidency.
However, after Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, he finished third with 95 votes, or 10.82% of the total number of ballots cast.
Many had conjectured that Alan might think about leaving the dominant party, but the NPP adamantly disagreed.
But Mr. Kyerematen has now revealed that he will run against the NPP candidate in the general elections of 2024
