Arriving in Norway earlier this year to train for the Fjordkraft Bergen City Marathon, a fictitious Para Athletes team from Ghana has vanished into other Schengen states.
An eleven-person team did not sign up to compete in the competition that was scheduled to take place in Norway in late April.
According to a document made public by the National Security Authority, one of the team members had previously been arrested and held by Norwegian security personnel in late April as they were trying to leave for Sweden.
The report also disclosed that squad coach George Gyamfi Gyasi passed away on May 17, 2024, after collapsing and being admitted to the Oslo University Hospital.
"Has issued alerts to other Schengen and West Diplomatic Missions in Accra to help apprehend and repatriate the team members," the Norwegian embassy in Accra stated.
The team members are still being sought after.
In the meantime, the National Paralympic Committee has severed its ties to the group mentioned above of individuals and suspended Mr. Ernest Yaw Ayisi, Mr. Theodore Mawuli Viwotor, and the Enestay Foundation indefinitely for their roles in the situation.
