We’ve developed a drone to detect KMA guards who’ll take bribes from traders – Sam Pyne

Mr. Kwabena Samuel Pyne, the mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has stated that his organization has created a technology to identify city guards who reportedly accept cash bribes from business owners.

The central business district of Kumasi, Ghana, is so congested that drivers park randomly while vendors sell their wares on the sidewalks and in the center of the road.

Concerns have been made by many people, including traders, about KMA guards who should be ensuring a peaceful environment in the city instead accepting money in the form of bribes from drivers and traders to conduct their business.

Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Friday, Mr. Sam Pyne said he had heard reports of the city guards extorting money from traders and drivers, but that he had not yet seen any solid proof to punish them.
He disclosed that the KMA had created a drone to find any guards who might be acting awkwardly so they would have clear proof.

"Most of the time we don't get any proof, so I've let one young guy build a drone for the meeting. We're going to choose proof from the videos he shot with the drone. The drone will be used to find municipal guards who will accept bribes from traders and drivers.
We're doing this because the guards will attack anyone who chooses to record them on their phone.

"So when we evaluate it (the drone videos) and choose evidence from that, we'll work on the evidence and punish any city guard who will be caught in the act appropriately." KMA CEO Sam Pyne announced.
However, he encouraged the populace to document and report the bad deeds of the city guards to the Assembly for punishment.

"Anyone who witnesses MTTD or a metro guard extorting money from a trader or a driver should record them, give it to us as proof, and we will take action to sanitize the system." Sam Pyne pleaded for help.
