Man with his 2 nieces dies in accident on their way to his mother’s funeral

While traveling to the Bono East Region for his mother's funeral, a man and his two nieces each passed away.

On Friday, May 19, 2023, near Enyiresi in the Eastern Region along the Accra-Kumasi route, an accident happened.

Kofi Gyan, the man, was operating a Hyundai Sonata with the license plate GS 7776-19.

He reportedly lost control of the steering wheel while attempting to escape a head-on collision with a sprinter bus that had made a mistaken overtake, causing the automobile to crash into a river alongside the highway.

The three occupants died as a result of this.

The bodies of the deceased, one male and two females, were deposited at the Enyiresi Government Hospital, according to Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), who confirmed the incident to Myjoyonline.com.
He claims that the GNFS got a distress call regarding the event on Friday at 6:10 am and got there at 6:33 am. He claimed that around 7:03 am, the GNFS's tools were used to recover the three bodies and the car.

Initial investigations, according to ADO King Nartey, indicate that the car may have collided with a hard surface because the front of the vehicle was significantly damaged.

ADO King Nartey stated that he believes the driver of the sprinter whose careless overtaking caused the accident fled the scene, despite the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) having yet to comment on the collision.
H urged everyone who may have been on the sprinter bus to come forward with information to the authorities that could result in the driver's arrest.

Prior to the arrival of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, a group of young men from the neighborhood tried unsuccessfully to pull the victims and the car out of the river.

According to reports, Kofi Gyan, the executive director of the non-governmental Initiators of Change Foundation, is a native of Kwabeng, which is located in the Nkoranza South Municipality of the Bono East Region.
