Professor Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, has expressed feeling victimized after being invited by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which ultimately led to his arrest. He was later granted bail in the amount of GHS 2 million cedis. Professor Frimpong-Boateng believes he has been unfairly treated, considering his significant contributions to the country.
In an exclusive interview with JoyNews, the esteemed heart surgeon discussed his past achievements, particularly his role in the success of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. He stated that while he acknowledges he is not perfect, he does not see any wrongdoing in his previous actions as the Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on illegal mining. Consequently, his arrest by the Special Prosecutor came as a surprise to him.
When asked if he feels victimized, Professor Frimpong-Boateng responded affirmatively, questioning what he has done wrong to warrant such treatment. He emphasized that if even 0.001% of the population behaved as he did, the country would be in a better state. He also stated that those currently in power or with influence should recognize that they too will eventually be held accountable for their actions.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng revealed that prior to his meeting with the Special Prosecutor, he consulted with some elders from the ruling New Patriotic Party, who advised him to comply with the invitation. Although he did not disclose the names of these party elders, he mentioned that they reassured him and encouraged him to meet with the Special Prosecutor as a matter of courtesy.
The renowned heart surgeon had received an invitation from the Special Prosecutor in relation to his report on the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM). He was subsequently granted bail following his arrest. The Special Prosecutor has announced that it will take appropriate action against all individuals implicated in the controversial report authored by Professor Frimpong-Boateng.
