Mahama halts campaign in Assin North after NDC member dies in accident

Following the accidental death of an NDC member, former president John Dramani Mahama has suspended his campaign in the Assin North Constituency.

It happens when a pickup truck carrying reporters who were there to cover the event crashed.

In a statement, he said he would put his campaign on hold for a few hours to pay his respects to the grieving family and the accident victims.

"I had to take a break from my campaign in Assin North for around two hours to meet supporters who were hurt in an accident following our engagement at Dansame.

"Unfortunately, we lost a friend who eagerly encouraged others to join the program. We send our sympathies to her family, the former president wrote in a tweet on Saturday.

According to the initial report from GHOne TV, the car was traveling to Assin North Constituency to cover former president John Dramani Mahama's campaign there when it crashed.

In the forthcoming by-election, which is set for June 27, 2023, the former president is in the district to support James Gyakye Quayson, the ousted Member of Parliament (phone) for Assin North.

The accident-causing vehicle's exact location within Mahama's convoy is unknown.

However, GhOne has already removed the tweet.
