The Abeokuta Magistrates' Court in Nigeria has remanded four 17-year-old males for raping a 16-year-old girl in a church lavatory during an all-night service and posting video of the crime on TikTok and WhatsApp.
The court postponed the case until August 2, 2023, pending input from the director of public prosecution for Ogun State.
The teens will be held in the care of the Borstal Correctional Centre in Adigbe, Abeokuta Ogun, till the next hearing date, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
In Ikosi Ketu, Lagos State, the suspects, all of whom are students, reside with their parents. They are facing trials for rape, cyberbullying, and conspiracy.
Before sending them back to custody and postponing the case, Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi did not hear their pleas.
The kids allegedly committed the claimed charges on June 3 at Celestial Church of Christ, Ikosi Ketu, Lagos, when a vigil was taking place, according to prosecutor ASP Raji Akeem. While the fourth videotaped it, the victim was raped by three of the suspects.
The Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, Sections 150, 210, and 411, according to the police chief, were broken.
In related news, a police investigation into a pastor's defiling and pregnancy of a 15-year-old girl, who was subsequently urged to have the pregnancy terminated, has begun.
Following a complaint from the victim's sister-in-law, Amesi ThankGod, the Rivers State Police Command in Nigeria detained the pastor of the Gracious Covenant Church, simply known as Pillar.
