Newsly refurbished Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park temporarily closed

On Friday, July 7, the renovated Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (KNMP) in Accra will be temporarily shut down until Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

The park will be closed to enable for preparations for its commercial activities, according to a statement from Mr. Edward Quao, the park's acting director.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, and we are committed to delivering a remarkable experience that exceeds the expectations of the community and visitors," Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said upon commissioning the renovated Park on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

He predicts that the renovated park would draw about a million local and foreign visitors each year.


Including that the government will keep making investments in the tourism industry to support economic recovery.


The building where Dr Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah,'s remains are kept is situated on the former polo grounds in Accra, where Ghana's independence was proclaimed, and it underwent a $3.5 million renovation.
