More Than Just Votes – Why This Election Matters to Every Student By Alexander Mawusi Senior

As the week unfolds and posters flood our Campuses, we are reminded that this is not just another routine event; it is election week. From our departments to our halls, and the Student

Representatives Council (SRC), we, the students, are given the sacred opportunity to decide who leads us, who represents our voices, and who carries the vision of our collective dreams into reality. we, the student body, are being called upon to make a choice. And not just any choice, but a choice that echoes beyond campaign slogans and flyers.

This is more than a race. It is a moment of reflection and responsibility. It is the one time we all get to shape the kind of leadership we want, the type that speaks for us, stands with us, and

sees us. Leadership that isn't perfect, but present. That listens. That tries.

We must not treat this process lightly.

To vote is to believe.

To believe that your voice matters.

To believe that things can be better.

To believe that we, the students, hold the power to change the culture of silence into one of action, inclusion, and representation.

Let us celebrate the spirit of democracy that exists even within the walls of academia. These elections are proof that we are being prepared not just as scholars, but as future citizens, leaders, voters, and advocates. It is where we learn the value of trust, the cost of indifference, and the strength of unity.

To those contesting, thank you for your courage. It is not easy to put yourself out there. But you have reminded us that leadership begins with a willingness to serve. Win or lose, you have already left your mark.

To every student, show up. Let’s vote with our hearts, with our hopes, and with the dreams we carry for this institution.

Remember: a vote is not just a mark on paper. It is a statement of trust, a declaration of belief, and a step toward building a stronger, more vibrant campus community.

Because, in the end, it’s not just about who leads; it’s about why we care.

“Your vote is not just a voice, it is a vision for the future. Choose it. Own it. Live it.”
