BREAKING NEWS: Former Ningo-Prampram MP ET Mensah dies aged 77

The affable ET Mensah, a former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and a member of the Council of State, passed away at the age of 77.


The editorial staff at GHpage.com has been informed that he passed away last night in South Africa following a protracted illness.

This tragic news follows the reported death of Theresa Kufuor, the former first lady, on Sunday, October 1, 2023.



Enoch Teye Mensah was born on May 17, 1946, and from January 1997 until January 2017, he held the positions of Minister for Education and Member of Parliament in Ghana.


He served as the long-time Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), which is equivalent to being the Mayor of the City of Accra, under the PNDC military administration in Ghana. When the National Democratic Congress was established, he joined.

In addition, he ran for office in the 1996 parliamentary election and won the Ningo-Prampram constituency, serving as MP for over ten years.


He retained his position in parliament even after the NDC suffered defeat in the 2000 elections. Mensah persevered till he was defeated by Sam George, the current Member of Parliament representing the wonderful people of Ningo-Prampram, in the NDC primary on November 21, 2015.
