Tragedy at AMECO: Level 300 Student Killed in Hit-and-Run

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, tragedy struck the Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education (Ameco) in Amedzope when Emmanuel Nyaku, a Level 300 student, was fatally struck by a cement trailer on the Amedzope-Ho road, just a short distance from the college campus.

According to eyewitness reports, Emmanuel was returning home on his motorbike after dropping off a fellow student on campus when the cement trailer hit him at a sharp bend. The force of the collision resulted in his death at the scene.

Alarmed by the news, fellow students rushed to the accident site, only to find Emmanuel lifeless by the roadside. The driver of the trailer fled before help arrived, turning the incident into a hit-and-run case.

In response, the college administration suspended its scheduled SRC Week celebrations as a mark of respect and mourning for the deceased student.

A fellow student, Enam, recounted the harrowing discovery, recalling:

“We were on campus when we heard the news that an accident had occurred. So we rushed there and saw him [the deceased student] on the side of the road, dead.”

She added that Emmanuel had recently dropped off a classmate on campus after a trip to town.

As of the latest update, authorities have not confirmed the arrest of the trailer driver, and the police have yet to provide a statement. Emmanuel’s body has been taken to the morgue in Ho, pending further investigation.
