I Regret It But Believe It Was A Penalty - Ghana-Portugal Referee

The referee at the center of a contentious penalty call against Ghana during their World Cup match against Portugal has spoken out, expressing regret for the incident.

The referee claimed that he used to play soccer with Ghanaians in his neighborhood in the US and that he has no animosity toward Ghana. He said he regrets the commotion, but he thinks it was a penalty.

After awarding Portugal three points and moving Ronaldo ahead of Pele and Maradona in the FIFA World Cup records, the Moroccan-American referee has faced harsh criticism on social media.

Many commentators claim that the referee erred in awarding the penalty, and Rafael Leao's third goal has been strongly suggested as being offside.

According to Sports Obama, the troubled referee was met in Qatar by Ghanaian Dr. Joe K, a former student of Prempeh College.

There was a penalty, the referee insisted. He stated that it was a punishment based on what he saw at that precise moment.

VAR would have been called if they had believed otherwise. However, they didn't, therefore it was accurate.

He was feeling a little guilty. He said that he once played soccer with Ghanaians in his neighborhood in the USA. But he didn't anticipate this commotion.
