Following the murder of an 11-month-old baby by his mother, Mrs. Blessing Eno, who claimed she was directed to do it by a "Spirit," there was rioting in the Yonen hamlet, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River.

Many people in the community are perplexed by the unfortunate tragedy that happened on Tuesday since the events leading up to the heinous deed continue to be peculiar.

The mother of two, who may have schizophrenia, allegedly took a matchet and chopped off the baby's head while screaming that the infant was bothering her and that a spirit had told her to kill the youngster.

However, the police's prompt action prevented the woman from being extrajudicially killed at the station. They immediately took the woman into protective custody before transporting her outside of Ugep.

In the meantime, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, has expressed dismay at the terrible incident and called for calm.
