Family rejects coffin from son-in-law for his mother-in-law’s burial, says it’s not beautiful

The bereaved family refused the casket, causing the son-in-law, who had thought he had done his best to purchase a casket for his late mother-in-burial, law's to experience unspeakable humiliation.

On March 30, 2023, at Tombo Mbatie in the Benue State of Nigeria's Buruku local government area, a bizarre incident is said to have occurred.

Bem Raphael Aondongu, a Facebook user, revealed the news on the social media site and stated that it is customary for the first female child to offer a casket for the burial of her parents.

Aondongu stated on his Facebook page that "as the TIV tradition mandates, when a mother or a father passes away, the first female child who marries is saddled with the responsibility to make provision for a coffin for the burial of any of the departed parents."

The grieving first daughter of the deceased widow worked with her husband to purchase a coffin for her burial in order to uphold this custom. However, their efforts fell short of what the family had hoped for.

The poster stated, "The first female child along with her husband, who is a son-in-law to the deceased mother, tried as he could to bring this casket but only to be rejected."

According to the deceased's family, the casket is unattractive and inadequate to bury a member of their family.

Aondongu, who chose to keep the identity of the family in issue private, polled his followers on how the deceased's son-in-law was treated.
