For the third time in a row, the Stanbic Bank Ghana has given 100 deserving students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) brand-new laptop computers worth millions of Ghana Cedis.
The presentation made in accordance with the financial institution's management was a component of the bank's social responsibility.
The Chief Executive Officer for Stanbic Bank, Kwamina K. Asomanin, said the donation also formed efforts to bolster the Support One Needy Students with One Laptop (SONSOL) project established by the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, when presenting the laptops to deserving students on Friday, June 23, 2023.
The impact the programme has had on the lives of young people since it began, he continued, is very encouraging to the bank.
"We promise to support the university because the goal of the SONSOL project is in line with the bank's policy on education, particularly the focus on brilliant but underprivileged female students in the fields of science and technology."
According to Kwamina K. Asomaning, the bank had previously committed to giving 500 laptops to gifted but underprivileged kids over the course of five years. She went on to say that this particular act was a fulfillment of their commitment.
He continued by saying that the communities in which Stanbic Bank Ghana operates have already received crucial assistance in the areas of health, education, and financial literacy.
He pointed out that by providing them with free internship chances, the bank has also extended its doors to computer science students looking to gain experience in the workforce.
The CEO promised that the bank would always stand behind society and the nation's most vulnerable.
In an interview with OTEC News Jacob Agyenim Boateng, a few of the recipients expressed gratitude for the assistance from Stanbic Bank Ghana.
The computers arrived just when they needed them for their many assignments, they said, describing the presentation as timely.
Student at KNUST studying Land Economy and recipient of the grant, Rosina Fosua Acheampong, said she had never imagined having access to a cutting-edge laptop for her coursework.
She thanked the bank and added that the kindness will make learning much simpler for her.
After receiving the laptop, Regina, a first-year midwifery student, said it would enhance her studies and make sure she kept up with the course.
She admitted that without a laptop, studying was very tough for her but that her parents couldn't afford to buy one for her, making Stanbic Bank's assistance all the more valuable.
