E/R: Truck kills Police officer, SHS student on motorbike

In a sad car accident near Niifio, a town close to Suhum in the Eastern region, two people have died: a police officer and a senior high school student. The accident happened along the Kumasi-Accra dual highway.

The incident happened on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at around 7:00 a.m.

The driver of a DAF XF articulated tanker truck with registration number GN 932-20, Abdul Fatau, 32, and his driver's mate, Abdallah Yakubu, 20, were travelling from Kumasi to Tema when they struck the back end of an unregistered Haojue motorcycle.

Solomon Okyere, 28, was riding the motorbike with two passengers: John Teye, 20, a student at Suhum Presby Secondary Technical School, and Corporal Richmond Atta Essandoh, 38, who works for the Suhum District Police.

Both the two pillion riders and the suspected rider suffered potentially fatal injuries in the incident.

They were swiftly transported by emergency services to Suhum Government Hospital for medical attention.

Sadly, the two pillion riders were declared dead when they arrived.

The bodies of John Teye, 20, and General Corporal Richmond Atta Essandoh, 38, have been taken to the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, the motorbike and the accident car have both been seized for testing.

Abdul Fatau, the suspected driver, is being held by the police to help with the investigation.
